Drop-in Bookbinding Workshop at the Main Library

Drop by to learn how to make three different simple book structures. Try one quick and easy binding style, or try all three! Preservation Services staff will be provide materials and instruction. Book options will include a four-hole stab binding, single signature with a decorative hitch stitch, and a Jacob’s Ladder book.

Environmental Monitoring and Integrated Pest Management at UIUC

Environmental monitoring and integrated pest management (IPM) are two essential aspects of preserving our library collections. Attendees will learn how storage environments can impact materials, and the elements of a successful IPM program. We will also cover how to identify pests and mold, and what to do when you see them. This event is open to everyone, and UIUC library staff are especially encouraged to attend. View recording. 

Online Exhibit: Digitizing the Gwendolyn Brooks Papers

The Gwendolyn Brooks Papers are one of the premier literary collections available in the Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Brooks was the first African American to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her poetry work. ALA Core Preservation Week
The 2022 Preservation Week theme is “Preservation in the Face of Climate Change.” This year’s Honorary Chair is Elizabeth Yeampierre, Executive Director of the the Brooklyn-based Latinx community organization UPROSE as well as an internationally recognized attorney and climate justice leader.
